Empowering Beginner Researchers through Quantitative Research and Scopus Publication Training

Scientific publication is an important component of academic development, but beginner researchers often face difficulties in conducting quantitative research and preparing manuscripts for reputable international journals. These difficulties include identifying research gaps, selecting appropriate research methods, analyzing quantitative data, developing scientific arguments, and understanding journal submission procedures. This community service activity aimed to empower beginner researchers through quantitative research and Scopus publication training. The activity was conducted for members of ICMA on March 9, 2025. The training employed a participatory capacity-building approach involving presentations, discussions, and practical learning activities. The materials covered quantitative research methodology, research gap identification, scientific novelty, data analysis, scientific writing, journal selection, submission strategies, and academic visibility. The activity provided participants with a structured understanding of the relationship between research questions, theoretical foundations, data sources, analytical methods, manuscript preparation, and publication readiness. The discussion also emphasized the importance of selecting research methods based on research objectives and data characteristics, as well as the need to align manuscripts with journal scope and submission requirements. The program indicates that research training can provide a foundation for improving researchers’ confidence and readiness to develop scientific manuscripts. However, the available documentation does not include participant numbers, pre-test and post-test results, participant satisfaction scores, or confirmed publication outcomes. Therefore, the contribution of the activity is interpreted primarily in terms of its educational value and potential to strengthen research capacity. Continuous mentoring, practical data analysis workshops, manuscript clinics, and collaborative publication activities are recommended to sustain the benefits of the training.

Empowering Academics through Scientific Writing Training for Scopus-Indexed Journal Publication

Scientific writing competence is an important component of academic development and international research dissemination. However, many academics continue to face challenges in transforming research findings into manuscripts that meet the requirements of reputable Scopus-indexed journals. This community service activity was conducted for ICMA on March 15, 2025, and aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of scientific article preparation and international journal publication strategies. The training employed an educational and capacity-building approach covering scientific article structure, research gap identification, academic argumentation, journal selection, manuscript submission, peer review, publication ethics, and the use of writing-support tools. The results indicate that the training provided a conceptual and practical foundation for improving academic publication readiness. Participants were introduced to the relationship between research problems, literature, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions, as well as the importance of journal suitability and ethical publication practices. The activity also highlighted the need for continuous mentoring, manuscript clinics, peer-review groups, and post-training monitoring. Nevertheless, the available documentation does not include participant numbers, pre-test and post-test results, participant feedback, completed manuscripts, or actual publication outcomes. Therefore, the contribution of the activity is interpreted as a documented training and capacity-building initiative rather than a statistically measured improvement in publication performance. Future community service programs should incorporate systematic evaluation and follow-up mentoring to assess longer-term impacts on manuscript development and journal submission.

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in supporting local economic development and community-based entrepreneurship. However, strengthening their competitiveness requires effective business planning and the ability to utilize digital technologies to reach broader markets. This community service program aims to strengthen strategic management and digital marketing capabilities among MSMEs based on local potential in Buluh Cina Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia. The program employs a participatory and practice-oriented approach consisting of preliminary assessment, strategic management training, digital marketing training, business mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation. The activities focus on business environment analysis, identification of competitive advantages, target market selection, business planning, branding, digital promotional content, and the use of appropriate digital marketing channels. The program is designed to help participants develop more structured business strategies, improve their digital promotional practices, and utilize local resources to identify market opportunities. Its expected contribution is to support stronger managerial capabilities, more effective customer engagement, and the sustainable development of locally based enterprises. Further evaluation using participant assessments and follow-up business indicators is necessary to establish the program's actual impact on MSME competitiveness and business performance.

Empowering Local Communities through Biodiversity Conservation, Ecosystem-Based Ecotourism, and Natural Capital Accounting for Sustainable Development in Buluh Cina, Riau, Indonesia

Biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management are essential for supporting environmental sustainability and inclusive community development. This community service initiative aims to empower local communities in Buluh Cina, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia, by integrating biodiversity conservation, ecosystem-based ecotourism, and natural capital accounting. The program focuses on strengthening community awareness of local natural assets, explaining the ecological functions of forest and freshwater ecosystems, introducing natural capital accounting and carbon sequestration concepts, and identifying opportunities for conservation-oriented ecotourism. A participatory community empowerment approach is proposed, comprising preliminary natural asset identification, biodiversity conservation education, introductory natural capital accounting and carbon literacy, ecotourism planning, and program evaluation. The initiative emphasizes the importance of recognizing the ecological, social, and potential economic contributions of local flora, fauna, forests, lakes, wetlands, and riverine habitats. It also highlights the role of natural capital accounting in organizing information about ecosystem assets and services to support more informed community-level decision-making. The expected contribution is to strengthen environmental literacy, encourage community participation in conservation, and provide a foundation for sustainable ecotourism planning and future ecosystem service assessments. However, verified biodiversity inventories, quantitative carbon assessments, and economic valuations require additional field data and systematic measurement. This integrated approach offers a framework for connecting biodiversity conservation with community empowerment and sustainable development in Buluh Cina.
